Whenever new songs by Elliott Smith come to the light of day, it’s pretty hard not to pay attention. Elliott, for his part, was a master of inventiveness who worked overtime at avoiding cliches and insignificance. Ultimately, his music says everything that he would want said about him, and I am not going to deny him that right. This particular song, “Talking To Mary”, is my favorite of the recently-released songs from his unreleased catalog which I discovered at ElliottSmithBSides.com. I’d like to insert a lengthy anecdote to go with this posting, but I just can’t. The songs just keep being unearthed, and people still haven’t forgotten about you, Elliott.

Plans for an album of unreleased songs and b-sides on Kill Rock Stars are incomplete at this time. Projected release date for that album is 3.17.2007 as of this writing.
