I really don’t know the first thing about Laura Ingalls (other than it’s one of the illest DJ names I’ve come across). The story on Laura’s Soundcloud page is really quite something, and they’re getting loads of attention both in discotheques and on radio like BBC. Currently in Shanghai, China, Laura (real name Raphaël Valensi) is apparently a DJ and producer who has dropped a flurry of dope disco edits and original tracks. She (he?) is also involved with Acid Pony Club which appears to have morphed into another project called The Horses (which features Clement Pony & Laura Ingalls).

What I like about this “Dub Piano Tool” track is two fold: one, the sample which I recognized immediately from “Funkin’ For Jamaica” by Tom Browne is almost indiscernible unless you know the song really well. There’s an industrial quality to the vocal interspersed towards the end of the track. At it’s core, though, is a nearly perfect execution of acid house.

As a companion, I’m including a track from The Horses, a solid piece of disco-house entitled “Soul Tool #2″. Tell me what you think.

Love Parade 2010 in Duisburg: Where everything’s P.L.U.R.fect

The 2010 Love Parade happens in Duisburg, Germany on 24 July 2010. People will be raving in the streets. DJ’s will be tearing it up on the ones and twos. If truth be told, I think going to Love Parade would be an interesting experience. One of our local DJ’s, Graflin, has spun at Love Parade several times & he says it’s incredible. Don’t think I can make it this year, but it does look like fun, doesn’t it?

Loudersoft Loves 808 State | Pacific State Still Shines 20 Years Later

In a week during which retrospectives on 80′s electronic and hip-hop are the trend, it only seems fitting and appropriate to re-examine Manchester-born 808 State‘s ~~first~~ (ed. note: it wasn’t their first single oops!) (and most well-known) recording, “Pacific State”. Mixed, remixed, repackaged and reissued innumerable times, the original version (which appeared on 1989′s EP Quadrastate) loses no power or edge with time. The perfection of their execution makes “Pacific State” the supreme benchmark of acid house: lush, synthetic harmonies blended with driving TR-808 rhythms.

I’d say we’re pretty lucky that Rephlex Records has just reissued a fully remastered edition of Quadrastate complete with additional tracks. If you dig what you’re hearing here, you’d do well to head on over to Amazon and pick up the remastered edition to hang on to.
