When Childish Gambino gets remixed by Treasure Fingers, it’s time to get on the good foot and wear your bad leg out on the dancefloor. Nothing less is revealed here, so get to gettin’ busy already!

First off, congratulations goes out from us to the whole Fool’s Gold crew on the launch of their new retail space at 536 Metropolitan Ave in Brooklyn. Reports from various sources around the web all tell us the good news we expected: the space is pretty spectacular and anyone who attended Friday’s grand opening bore witness. Now open for business officially, they’ve decided to collabo with Hitachi’s G-Connect to create a new streaming live experience called Tight Space starting on Wednesday, July 20th.

It’s been less than 24 hours since marriage equality passed the New York senate, and what better way to celebrate than with a gay icon (Adele ) singing a song of heartbreak that’s been remixed into (you guessed it) a dance beat. The synergy is so fabulous I almost wish they could’ve spun this at Stonewall last night.

Kwestro is a hip-hop producer out of Austin who’s been dabbling in electronic and ambient music in recent years, and is currently at work on his debut album. He says this remix was almost abandoned, unfinished, but he decided instead of producing a beat around the entire song to focus in on one killer lyrical moment: “The scars of your love, remind me of us. They keep me thinking that we almost had it all.”

Like any good remix, this is an entirely new sonic experience. Kwestro’s managed to get a hook stuck in my head that I simultaneously already knew by heart and yet had never heard before. Listen for the way he chops up the vocal toward the end, using the blips to create a secondary beat structure. It’s a little trance, it’s a whole lot of dance. So take a…chance?

Rhymes. Sue me.

The rise of bands like Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings sort of renews my faith in the general ear of humanity. Makes me think that in the past 50 years or so since the birth of soul, that part of us that’s seduced by a knock-out voice over the perfect combination of bass and horns never went away. Maybe it just needed to be waked up. Well wake up baby, because the alarm is going off, and it’s the smoky voice of Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears.

This week they released a new video for “Livin’ In The Jungle,” and after the audible buzz floating around SXSW about these guys (though shamefully I never caught them myself, though I knew someone who thought them good enough to see twice), I’m just hoping I’m still a “late-comer” and not yet to “band-wagoner” status. They’ve announced some tour dates, as well, (some with that very Sharon Jones and her Dap-Kings) and I’ll be front and center to see them at Bonnaroo on June 11th and again at the Hi-Tone June 23. It’s on the calendar. In pen.

Did you say you’d like some acid house? A Cut Copy remix? A touch of psychedelia? A group from Portland? That’s an awful lot of demands you’re making but guess what? I have just the thing — The Miracles Club is clearly what you’re looking for.

Cut Copy has a lil’ label called Cutters Records & they’ve signed Portland, Oregon’s dramatic electronic trio The Miracles Club to release Light of Love Remixes, an EP which features a series of reworkings of the title track. The instant gratification of 80′s electronic dance music bubbles up in a reworking so solid, it could well have been an unreleased New Order song from 1984 that had just been unearthed.

The Miracles Club – Light of Love (Cut Copy Re-Vision)

Los Angeles remixer/producer Professor LaCroix pulls together another boogie anthem, perfect for getting the weekend going. “Legend Gold (Featuring Kestrin)” has already been remixed and appeared in his VIP Area Podcast back in February.

Now, the track gets elegantly remixed by the good folks over at BlackLodge Music, weighing equal parts of synth-funk and groove in a perfect balance of harmonies and keyboards. Anyone who knows me (meaning EJ) knows that as the editor & publisher of this site since 2005, I have been a solo operation for the most part. I have searched high and low for new contributors to what I do around here & at long last, I’ve found someone whose voice and whose passion for music matches my own. My name is Elizabeth, and I’m addicted to new music. (This is the part where you all say, “hi, Elizabeth,” but what with this being the Internet and all, I can’t actually hear you. So we’ll just pretend you did.) I’m the newest member of the Loudersoft team, and I hope I can write some things you’ll care about reading and turn you on to some music you wouldn’t have otherwise discovered.

Here’s the quick and dirty on me: I’m a born and raised Memphis girl, but I left the city for college in 2003 and did time in London and New York before moving back to the bluff in 2009. I’m a musician myself, but most of the time I’d rather assign words and descriptions and philosophies to sounds than actually create them. I started writing album and show reviews in college, and after grad school I spent some time writing for The Tripwire, an online magazine in The FADER family of publications. I’m into indie rock, folk, pop, funk, underground hip-hop, soul, R&B and just about anything that can grab my ear for more than a few seconds. My favorite random fact to share at parties and Bar Mitzvahs is that I once wrote an academic paper about musicological issues in early gangsta rap. I am an unrepentant Anglophile, so I tend to gravitate to grime and dubstep from the motherland, as well as a lot of the island’s indie rock and soul. I don’t pretend to know everything or be on top of everything, but I’ve got a handle on what I like and a decent ear for what’s good, in whatever incarnation that takes. I’m looking forward to discovering some new sounds with y’all.

Incidentally, you will also note that I tagged this post as “ass-shaking.” I’d say that pretty much sums me up.

Mobroder, in his ongoing quest to get Princess back & maintain his place as the king of the disco, turns to his close friend and confidant DJ Hoff for a bit of funky assistance with the song “Rush”. I really don’t know a lick about Memphis’ Charlie Blacksmoke other than when I first heard his song “Hippie Glue”, I had just finished listening to (like several of you reading this) The Weeknd’s House Of Balloons mixtape for the umpteenth time. Since then, I’ve probably played “Hippie Glue” over and over again half a dozen times and even danced around my house listening (Video Currently Unavailable). It seems like there’s even a small nod of gratitude in this track to White Town, but you be the judge of that. You might want to be prepared to get off your own ass after hearing this.
