The news of a new solo album from Aimee Mann has us very excited here at Loudersoft. The album promises to be more stripped down and back-to-basics laden, a “return to form” after the concept albums The Forgotten Arm and her Christmas CD One More Drifter In The Snow. Among her appearances this year, she’ll be playing Bonnaroo, and we definitely look forward to catching her live.

UPDATED 1:05AM EST: As predicted by a number of people, the word is out now that Lez Zeppelin, the all lesbian Led Zeppelin cover band, will appear at Bonnaroo; however, Led Zeppelin will not be appearing. NME has been nominated for the “Douchebags of the Century” award in “Journalism” for building up this announcement and creating chaos for everyone who writes about music. However, the lineup still looks pretty exciting. More details as they become available.

And just when the guessing game had reached it’s pinnacle, British music magazine NME has made declaration that they will announce the “surprise headliner” for Bonnaroo tonight at Midnight EST. This adds weight to the potential of a number of great British acts headlining the festival this year. Rumored candidates Led Zeppelin and Oasis appear to be the front runners, and even a rumor that a reunited version of The Kinks could be there have all come into question recently.
From the NME Blog:
NME.COM will reveal a surprise headliner for the 2008 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival at midnight EST.
The festival will take place June 12-15 in Manchester, Tennessee.
Stay tuned to NME.COM for all the details on Bonnaroo’s special headliner and the complete line-up to date for this year’s festival.
We’re staying tuned, you do the same. (NME Blog)

If you follow this blog at all, you know how much fun we had at Bonnaroo 2007 over in lovely Manchester, Tennessee. Well, it’s just about time for the official lineup for Bonnaroo 2008 to be announced, and the natives are restless everywhere. BONNAROOOOOOOOOO!
It appears that for the last several days on Radio Bonnaroo, the DJ’s have been sporadically spitting out some clues as to who the various participants might be. On websites like Idolator and Stereogum, and of course over at the Official Bonnaroo Forums, people are all hedging their bets and crossing their fingers as to whom these clues represent. We love a mystery here at Loudersoft, so we will follow the excitement by jumping on to the list of “websites who started covering Bonnaroo in February” by throwing the clues at you and letting you have a stab at it.
In the meantime, attempts to connect to the official Bonnaroo website have been met with a repeated Service Unavailable message. Something is definitely going on over there, and we’re all pretty sure they’re preparing for the big announcement. I am told that the official Bonnaroo lineup will be announced on Wednesday, February 6th at around 12PM. So, be sure to check back then. In the meantime, what do these clues mean to you?
1. “There is more than one Manchester”
2. “Memphis isn’t Albany”
3. “Clouds taste this way”
4. “Some Herrings are red, Jimmy”
5. “Hard Substance, Soft Substance”
6. “Janis Joplin’s reserves will be preserved”
7. “Rumors are just rumors, but twist them sideways, grow your humor hair and they become a more yen reality. No, this is not about Fleetwood Mac”
8. “It’s not sour, what is sowed in the earth”
9. “Three certain birds, add one”
10. “Look to the center of Europe to get the sound, but the band comes form all around.”
11. “Here is another clue for you message board people. Open up the church and you will see the steeple. Some of your guesses have been way off but correct for the wrong clues. Now I must cough.”
EDIT: 12. Charlie’s imaginary band will not be playing and don’t believe what he wrote on his hand and the last few things he was not saying. (thanks to a Stereogum reader)
