In it’s original release, the now-classic (and still bumping as f**k) mixtape Couche Tard pulled together elements from all over the place — an untouchable generational and cultural crossbreed mixing tracks from Spank Rock with comedy drops, jazz, reggae, disco, funk, breakdance and even doo-wop, the crew of Xxxchange, Devlin and Darko completely outdid themselves.

According to Xxxchange, “Couche Tard is the name of a convenience store in the french part of Canada. It translates roughly to “we go to bed late” or “we stay up late”. Luckily, the sessions made it to Soundcloud (in advance of the crew’s soon-to-come CD/DVD project Win Win) where you can drop them at your party, get together, powerpuff circle, shindig, or you know … just so you can put on something ill to listen to. [Tribute] Nate Dogg x Burial x Four Tet x Thom Yorke – I Got Ego

I was really impressed with this nicely mashed-up tribute to Nate Dogg (who sadly passed away this week at the age of 41) put together by Richard The Third. Putting together “I Got Love” with the new Burial, Four Tet and Thom Yorke track “Ego“, I think it speaks for itself. Nate Dogg, you were the master of the G-Funk era, and like this picture says: It Aint a Hit Unless Nate Dogg Sings On It.

Rest in Peace, Nate.

Once upon a time there was Senior and Senior was all alone making music. Then came Junior and Junior was making music all alone. Then Junior met Senior and made Junior Senior. They make music that is fun. They make music that is happy. They got everyone to move their feet and feel united. They wanted to get get get to know n-know know you better better , baby. They played festivals and raves and parties and nightclubs and picnics and barbeques and shindigs and afterparties and whatever else you had in mind for many many moons. They were still happy and fun, but apparently they weren’t exactly happening here in the United States.

That’s all changed.

Now, to coincide with the August 14th stateside release of their much-adored 2005 album Hey Hey My My Yo Yo, a special 7 song EP entitled “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye” will come right alongside with your purchase. This track won’t be on it, but you should buy it anyways because Junior Senior are fun. You need fun in your life don’t you?
