In 2011, those familiar might think a city with a wealth of musical history and significance such as Memphis would tout an equally wealthy list of music festivals and gatherings. There are at several notables that each have broad appeal — Goner Records’ annual Gonerfest, the Folk Alliance International Conference which takes place every February, and the Beale Street Music Festival every May all come to mind.

But Brandon Herrington — a Memphis native & member of local band This Is Goodbye — could see that something was missing. Last year, he & his friend Seth Fein set out a plan to create a new grassroots festival in Memphis that would cater to and be inclusive of fans 18 and over for the week after SXSW. They reached out to sponsors, bands and local clubs for their assistance in giving birth to the concept.

The result of Brandon & Seth’s heavy lifting is Fareveller Music Festival, which takes place March 24th – 26th in Memphis at a number of local venues — Hi-Tone, Newby’s, Young Avenue Deli and The P&H Cafe. The inaugural lineup boasts a diverse group of out-of-town acts like Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s, Damien Jurado* , Dignan, Pujol and Morning Teleportation blended with a host of up-and-coming & established Memphis artists — Cities Aviv, Electrocity, Total Savage, Youniverse, Pezz, American Gods, Jeremy Stanfill and The Oldest Profession (just to name a few).

The other day, we told you about Moogfest 2010 in Asheville, NC (home of Moog Headquarters), and today more details have emerged. In just under half an hour, tickets for Moogfest 2010 will go on sale. Just added to the already stellar lineup are two legendary acts: Devo and Van Dyke Parks.. Tickets and VIP packages (including hotel) will go on sale Friday, August 13th at 12pm EST. Basic ticket prices are as follows, and this is probably the bargain of the year for a lineup like this:

Following early sellouts and rave reviews the past several years, and hailed by SPIN as “a pick-your-poison selection for your party at the edge of the earth,” the Sasquatch! Festival returns for its ninth year May 29-31 (Memorial Day Weekend), 2010 at The Gorge in Quincy, WA. For the first time, a special discounted 3-day festival pass will be available in time for the holiday gift season on Saturday, November 7 at 10:00 A.M. (PST) via sasquatchfestival.com . There are a limited number of discount passes, which will be available through December 31, 2009. The festival’s complete lineup will be announced February 16.

Festival creator Adam Zacks founded Sasquatch! in 2002 with the aim of constructing an event that catered to the eclectic tastes of voracious music enthusiasts. Zacks personally curates the lineups for each Sasquatch! Festival, hand-picking the diverse array of artists. “It’s our goal each year to present a fresh line up that reflects the independent spirit of the Pacific Northwest, respects the artists and audience, and celebrates the grandeur of The Gorge.”

The Sasquatch! Festival has established a tradition of presenting critically acclaimed emerging artists alongside established headliners. Previous lineups have spanned a broad spectrum of genres from rock to hip-hop, electronic to singer-songwriters; past performers include R.E.M. Coldplay, Kanye West, Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Wilco, The Flaming Lips, The Cure, Björk, and M.I.A. The festival also has a history of incorporating comedy including performances by Flight of The Conchords, Zach Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, and many more.

Known for its bucolic location as well as its programming zeitgeist, the Sasquatch! Festival marks its ninth year at The Gorge, a concert venue built in the Columbia River Gorge and offering spectacular views of the river canyon.
